About True Living Cost
The Problem
In many Spokane neighborhoods, there is a disparity between landlords and renters, which can cost renters and the environment. Landlords may be unaware of how inefficient their properties are and unknowingly blindside renters with high utility bills for otherwise affordable properties. Spokane has an abundance of older homes and an even larger abundance of renters. The vacancy rate in the Logan neighborhood is approximately 6% and almost half of the homes in the Logan neighborhood were built before 1940 (citation). The large demand of rental properties allows many landlords to maintain outdated heating and cooling system in aging homes that are not properly insulated by modern standards. During the hot summers and frigid winters, the utility bills for these properties skyrocket, which leaves renters spending more each month in order to stay comfortable. When looking for rental properties, renters do not know the actual monthly cost of living at a particular property. This can lead to frustrated tenants who are unable or struggle to pay their monthly and utility bill.
Our Solution
True Living Cost brings together an estimated rental cost (provided by Zillow) and an estimated utility bill (provided by Avista) to show a monthly "sticker" price. The application is intended for prospective tenants within the Logan neighborhood.
